Granite Tile Countertop Edge Ideas

by Martin Giff
(Greensboro,NC)

QUESTION:

I am planning to install 12-inch black granite tiles on my kitchen countertop and am wondering what to do about the edging. If I use a wood trim, how do I finish it? I would love it to be black also... maybe lacquer?

ANSWER:

Well, I'm not a professional wood worker, but any type of lacquer or varnish will need fairly regular maintenance and re-application. So, I wouldn't do that.

I'd just use an oil-base solid stain rated for outdoor use. Stain the wood before attaching to the counter. But again, check with a pro experienced in finishing wood.

Of course, you could cut the tiles to make an edge or buy pre-formed edge tiles.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
