Granite Like Crema Marfil Marble?

by Jean
(Orange, CA)

QUESTION:

I really like the look of crema marfil marble, and I'd like to use it on my kitchen counter. However, I'm aware that marble is not recommended for kitchens. I have not been able to find a granite that looks anything like this. Can you recommend one?

ANSWER:

I wish I could help, but I cannot think of a granite that looks like Crema Marfil marble.

If you are going for that rustic look, then you may consider getting the Crema Marfil honed. It will still etch, but it won't be nearly as noticeable as on a polished and/or darker marble. Also, the "use" will contribute to that "aged" look.

I wouldn't recommend this if you are not ok with the look of the stone changing some with age. If you go for it, then be sure to seal it real well and test often because honed marble is more porous than polished.

But really, I'd try to find a granite you like. Be sure to test a sample to make sure it isn't too porous.

Good Luck,
Ryan

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
