Yellowing Carrara Marble Bathroom Counter

QUESTION:

My Carrara Bathroom counter is turning slightly yellow. What can I use to restore it?

ANSWER:

Well, if the entire countertop is yellowing, most likely it's because of some type of coating or wax on the surface that is yellowing and not the actual marble. If so, I'd recommend using SCP: DEEP CLEAN Stripper/Degreaser to strip the wax/coating off.

Yellow spots on the other hand if often from oxidation of iron deposits that exist in white marbles.

If there is a continuous source of water (leak) that saturates the marble it can rust the iron and carry the rust to the surface which will form yellow-orange spots.

Typically this is a problem with floors with water coming up from the subfloor or a flood, etc. and not countertops. Since countertops are essentially exposed on all sides, it's pretty difficult for them to get saturated with water from a leak.

If you do have spots you could try a poultice. You'll find complete instructions how to do this in the Removing Stains Manual. But you'd also need to stop the source of water.

Or it could possibly be the glue from installation leaching through.

If the above explanations don't seem to fit the bill, then I'd recommend calling in a fabricator or marble maintenance pro to take a look.
