Wood Candle Holder Stain on Marble

QUESTION:
Wooden candlesticks on the white with gray marbling, marble top table got wet and left a stain where they had been. It is rust in color, and when I rub across it, there is still residue because I can feel that there's a thin layer on top of the marble, and my hand hits more resistance. Is it OK to use a Clorox wipe on it? Windex did lift some of it.
ANSWER:
No, it is not okay to use Clorox bleach or Windex on it. Yes, those products may help remove some of the marble stain (that which exists on the surface), but they should not be used for cleaning marble because they will cause physical damage to the marble leaving dull and discolored "etch marks".
You should only use
products safe for cleaning marble.
Why?
Because marble is sensitive to acids and alkaline cleaners, which are most common and store-bought brand cleaners. These will etch the marble.
But cleaning marble stains cannot be done with a spray on type cleaner anyway even those that are made safe for marble.
Stains occur when a substance... in this case wood dye... absorbs into the pores of the marble
below the surface where a regular cleaner cannot get to.
To clean marble stains you'll need to follow the instructions in the
How To Remove Granite & Marble Stains Manual.
Good news is that most stains can be removed easily and cheaply especially if recent like yours.
Good Luck,
