Vinegar Spots on New Marble Table

by Kathy
(Goodyear, AZ)

QUESTION:

I just purchased a new black marble kitchen table. It looked beautiful, but today I used vinegar on it and now it is all water spotted. What should I do now to restore it's beauty?

ANSWER:

Vinegar... ohhh nooo.... not for marble. Vinegar is acidic and will "etch" marble.

Etching occurs when acidic foods or harsh cleaning products contact marble... eating into the surface creating dull and discolored spots.

Luckily you can usually repair the damage and restore the surface to its original condition with some simple procedures.

The methods vary depending on whether the marble is polished or honed. You'll find complete instructions in our Removing Etch Marks Manual.

After you restore it be sure to use only products safe for marble maintenance and use coasters, place mats and trivets to keep it from happening again.

Good Luck,
Ryan
