Stained Marble Shower Floor

by Janis Olinger
(Crowley, TX)

QUESTION:

We have a marble shower and the flooring is stained from years of use. The floor has a slight texture to prevent slipping. How do you remove the dirty looking stains and how do you protect it.

ANSWER:

Janis, without knowing more details about the marble stain (color, shape, pattern, what may have caused it) I can't provide a useful answer.

Marble does not typically stain from soapy shower products, although soap scum can build up. If you have been using products with some type of oil, then yes a stain is possible.

You'll find complete step-by-step instructions for cleaning marble stains of all types in the Removing Granite & Marble Stains e-book.

One other possibility... are you sure it is marble and not "cultured marble?"

Cultured marble is basically a plastic product made with ground marble and made to look like marble, but is not actual marble. The protective coating on cultured marble can yellow with age and wear away with use making it very susceptible to staining.

If you don't mind, take a picture and submit it with another question including more detail and I'll take a stab at it.

If it is marble, then it can probably by restored, but the method will depend on the type of stain.

If it is cultured marble then I don't have an answer for you except to call a professional, but more likely you'll just need to replace it.

Good Luck,
Ryan
