Spots On Marble

by Juanita Hames
(Tennessee )

QUESTION:

We have a marble top for our coffee table and it has spots, probably from glasses. They look like water spots. Also, the marble is very dull. How do I clean and polish it?

ANSWER:

Well, if the entire marble table top is dull with several "water spots," then I'd recommend you call a professional to re-polish your marble.

This is not a matter of "cleaning." Your marble has been damaged from "etching." Etching occurs from contact with acidic and sometimes alkaline substances. This includes most cleaning products and many foods and drinks like coffee, alcohol, fruit juice and soda.

These are not stains. Part of the marble surface has been eaten away destroying the polish.

Mild to moderate etching is quickly restored using the ETCH REMOVER / Marble Polishing Paste, but more severe (rough to touch) or pervasive damage is better handled by a profession marble restorer.

Good Luck,
Ryan
