Sealing Golden King Granite

QUESTION:
Just wondering is Golden King a dense line or does it definitely need sealing.
ANSWER:
There are many stones that you can say with near certainty that it will or won't need sealing and many others that may or may not need sealing.
The point is that granite is a natural product and even though particular colors/varieties will demonstrate consistently similar characteristics, there's simply no way to say whether or not the exact slab you pick out will or won't need sealing.
Luckily there's a simple way you can get an exact answer yourself.
All you need to do is perform the
water test preferably on a sample of the exact slab you wish to buy or sample tile. However, it can be done just as well on an installed countertop to determine if it needs a granite sealer and/or when it may need re-sealing.
This is a great test to do when trying to choose which stone to install especially in a kitchen. You don't want an overly porous stone and the test helps weed out those.
Yes, you can apply a granite sealer, but it's hard to really compensate for a very porous stone, which some granite are. Likewise the test will reveal those granites that are so dense that a granite sealer is unnecessary and in fact can't even be absorbed.
So, do the test. If the test shows it should be sealed, then I recommend using
SenGuard or Stone Sentry Sealers.
Good Luck,
Ryan
