Marble stain
QUESTION:
I've tried to keep everything off of the countertop as much as possible, but I have 4 teenagers, and my black and white marble is becoming etched and stained.
ANSWER:
Applying a sealer like these
recommended impregnating sealers will greatly improve your stain protection.
Stains are caused by something absorbing into the marble. The result is a dark spot.
You'll find complete step-by-step instructions for removing all types of marble stains in the
Removing Granite & Marble Stains e-book.
Etching is caused by contact with acidic foods and drinks, of which there are many... and by using the wrong cleaning products that are too harsh, which is nearly all brand-name and common cleaners.
You can easily repair etch marks on polished (shiny) marble using the
Marble Polish / Etch Remover.
I can't tell from the picture is your marble countertop is polished, but if it is honed, then the above product is not suitable and you'll either have to call in a marble maintenance pro or follow the instructions in the
Removing Etch Marks e-book.
Sealing won't prevent etching. You simply need to limit contact with offending substances. Impossible in a kitchen, so you need to learn how to handle etch marks effectively for your surface type (polished vs honed).

Ryan
