Removing Wax From Marble Floor

by Vicki
(Skiatook, OK)

QUESTION:

We recently took over a cleaning job in which the person before us waxed a polished marble floor. How do we strip the wax off of the floor without ruining the finish or is it already ruined?

ANSWER:

Personally, I would explain to the owner of the floor that stripping wax from marble is beyond the scope of a normal cleaning and requires the service of a marble restoration professional to come out and strip the wax off the marble floor.

Jobs of this magnitude require knowledge, experience and skill. The best and easiest way requires using a floor machine and possibly the use of chemicals that could damage the surface.

You can easily ruin the polish, scratch or otherwise damage marble if you don't know what you are doing and this is not a job that I feel comfortable recommending as a "try and see what happens" deal.

If I were in your position, I would not want the responsibility and liability of performing a job that I was not skilled to do.

I know this answer is probably not too satisfying since you are aiming to please your new client, but it is the appropriate course of action.

Regards,
Ryan
