Removing Permanent Marker on Honed Marble

QUESTION:
I have light-tan-colored honed marble countertops in my kitchen. I don't know the specific kind or color, since we just bought the house two weeks ago. However, my 5-year old got a hold of a permanent marker (black), and ran over the edge of his paper. Is there any way to get this off? I tried soap and water and it didn't budge. It looks like most of the seal on the countertops has worn off.
ANSWER:
Colleen, as you found out soap and water won't cut it and don't start using random products.
Most likely will have to make and apply a poultice.
Now, you stated that you just moved into a house with marble kitchen countertops. Luckily they are honed, but marble in the kitchen can be trouble if you don't know how to properly protect, clean and maintain it. It's not like granite.
You also, have one (or more) young children who typically are not the best housekeepers!
So, I'd suggest you download our
Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide that will teach you everything you need to know about marble, how to avoid problems and solve them when they happen... including the one you are having right now... removing permanent marker stains.
I hate to say it, but with marble countertops in the kitchen and a young family you most certainly with have more issues and questions regarding stains, sealing, etching, scratches, proper cleaning products, etc.
The guide will save you many a hassle, headache and expense.
Good Luck,
Ryan
