Removing Marble Vanity Top Hair Dye

QUESTION:

I was trying to remove hair dye drips using a poultice of talc and 10% peroxide. I found this recipe on line. The poultice has now left a tan stain itself, besides not removing the hair dye. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

ANSWER:

Using a hydrogen peroxide poultice can be effective for removing some marble stains. Often you have to repeat the process several times.

The hydrogen peroxide is acidic, which is damaging to marble. Acids will corrode or "etch" the marble leaving dull and discolored spots.

You can repair the dull etched spot using the Marble Polish / Etch Remover, which is designed just for this purpose.

There is no getting around possible etching when attempting to remove some stains. You can't remove a stain by just spraying and scrubbing with some type of cleaning product. You could try using acetone instead of the hydrogen peroxide.

Acetone will not etch the marble and may work better in this instance. You often have to experiment when removing stains, because the recipe changes will change depending on what stained the marble.

If you want to learn more about it, you'll find complete info about removing all types of marble stains in the Removing Granite & Marble Stains ebook.

Good Luck,
Ryan
