Outdoor Kitchen Wall Surfacing

by Iowanna
(Alabama)

QUESTION:

I have pressure treated plywood walls around the cooking area and I do not have enough tile to tile up the walls. What are some solutions and steps to cover up the ugly plywood?

ANSWER:

Well, your options may depend on how close to the BBQ the walls are... don't want a fire hazard or a hygiene problem with grease and splatter, etc.

You may consider using bamboo poles screwed or glued to the plywood or bamboo thatching nailed onto the outdoor kitchen wall or nail lattice fencing and then paint.

The simplest is just to paint of course, but that may be a bit plain, unless you go with bright primary colors or multiple colors like often seen in the Caribbean.

You could also make a mosaic of sorts with broken tile or glass glued to the plywood (similar to tiling yes, but much cheaper). Or paint and hang some ceramic or wrought iron art on the walls.

Those are a few ideas that should get you going. After you decide what to do and finish the project, take a picture and upload it with the same form you asked this question with. I'll be posting people's projects to give others help and ideas.

Good Luck,
Ryan
