Maroon Stains on White Marble
by Aurobindo

QUESTION:
White italian marble when laid is showing maroon stains in some areas what is the cause and how to remove them.
ANSWER:
Without a more complete description of the stains (size, shape, location, quantity) I can't say for sure, but a couple possibilities...
1. Using the wrong color adhesive and/or grout... should use white only.
2. Rust stains from the iron deposits found in most white marble. Typically this takes some time to show up, but is caused by water behind the tiles (usually because of a poor installation).
If they are orange-brown stains (rust) then you'll need to make sure no water is behind the tiles and fix it if it is.
Then you can remove the stains. If it is from grout or adhesive, then again you should remove and redo.
You can remove stains from marble, but it requires a multi-step process. You'll find complete step-by-step instructions in the
Removing Stains Manual.
