Marble Water Ring Removal

by Kitty Williams
(Ocala, FL)

QUESTION:

Water rings on table top, how do I remove them safely?

ANSWER:

The only way to remove glass rings is with a marble polishing powder.

The "water rings" are actually marks of corrosion (etch marks) caused by a reaction between the calcite based marble and an acidic substance (juice, coffee, alcohol, soda, etc.).

The acid eats into the marble removing the thin polished layer of marble leaving a lighter dull spot most noticeable on polished surfaces.

Since the shiny polish on marble is created by friction and grinding (not a chemical) that's what you'll have to do to restore the polish in the damaged are. I recommend you to use this ETCH REMOVER / Marble Polishing Paste for this particular case.

You'll find lots of products labeled "marble polish," but most of these are meant to just enhance a little the polish that is already there and will not work for your problem... that's why I recommend the above polish... it'll work.

If it doesn't work, then you have severe damage that can only be repaired by a marble restoration professional, but for most etch marks the MB-11 will get the job done.

Good Luck,
Ryan
