Marble Vanity Top Stains

QUESTION:
My marble counter top which is sealed looks like crap, many stains. Can I remove the sealant and reseal it somehow?
ANSWER:
Tom, most likely what you have are not "stains."
A stain occurs when something is absorbed into the marble. If the marble is polished and you sealed it, it is highly unlikely that you have stains.
Contrary to popular myth, marble is
not prone to staining and polished marble is highly stain-resistant.
I'll bet 99% chance you have "etch marks" from some acidic product you use a lot or from harsh cleaning products not safe for marble.
Marble is sensitive to acids. Contact with acids will etch or eat away some of the marble creating dull and sometimes discolored spot, which are lighter than the rest of the marble.
To remove/repair these areas you'll need to use
MB-11 Polishing Powder.
If you do have spots that are darker than the normal marble color, then you do have stains and will need to follow the procedure explained in the
Removing Stains Manual.
Also, you can
test the marble to see if it does or does not currently need sealing.
