Marble Vanity Top Dull and Stained

QUESTION:

How do I get my black marble vanity top to shine? It is dull and has rings stains. HELP!

ANSWER:

Ring stains and dullness are typically due to etching of the marble surface by acidic drinks and harsh cleaning chemicals.

Marble is made of calcium carbonate which will react with acids (and sometimes strong alkalines) corroding/etching the surface. Etching destroys the polish because the surface material that is polished gets eaten away to expose the dull marble.

The polish on marble is not from the application of some chemical, potion or lotion. It is accomplished via intense grinding, friction and buffing the surface to a glossy finish.

But if the etch mark is still smooth, you can use the ETCH REMOVER / Marble Polishing Paste to fix and restore the damaged areas.

To restore severe etching where it's getting rough to the touch you will need the service of a professional marble restorer.

After you fix it, clean only with water and/or specially formulated marble cleaner and use coasters for drinks and decorative trays work well to keep toiletries from etching marble.

FYI... sealing has nothing to do with etching. You must simply avoid contact with damaging substances.

Good Luck,
Ryan
