Marble Vanity Soap Stain Dull Spot

QUESTION:
A hand soap left a stain (dulling) on the vanity. Is that perminant or can I do something to bring back the shine?
ANSWER:
No, it isn't permanent. Cleaning marble is easy, but you have to know how to treat it just like you would carpet, clothes, leather, fine wood, etc. There's a simple solution to almost any problem you may encounter.
Soap will not stain or etch marble, so it must be from something else. Or your soap is too acidic or too alkaline, which is not common.
Anyway, the problem is etching. Marble is reactive with acidic foods, drinks and products and with most common household cleaners.
Etching is corrosion that eats at the marble creating a dull and light colored spot. This is a known marble maintenance issue. But it is not a "stain".
To repair etching on polished marble use
SCP: Marble Polishing Paste, which is made exactly for this and will restore the shine.
For easy marble maintenance and to help prevent etching in the future, place any personal products on a decorative tray or shelf rather than directly on the marble.
Now again, soap is not damaging to marble, so if you are certain it's the soap, then change brands.
Good Luck,
Ryan
