Marble Floor Vinegar Stain

by Debra
(Clarkston, MI)

QUESTION:

I broke a bottle of vinegar on my new marble floor...black with white veining... HELP !! Stain a large blots rub and rub... What do I do?

ANSWER:

Hopefully you were not trying to clean the floor with vinegar. Vinegar should not be used to clean marble... it will etch and damage marble as you found out.

Etching occurs when acidic foods/drinks like coffee, wine, soda, mustard, salad dressing and/or harsh cleaning products contact the marble.

This is not a "stain" though. Stains occur when something is absorbed into the marble. Etching is physical damage to the marble. Two completely different issues.

The acids corrode (eat into) the marble causing dull and sometimes discolored spots. It happens instantly.

Don't worry though, if you wiped it up quick the damage may look really bad, but the etching is probably pretty mild and you'll be able to fix it yourself.

The procedure for repairing etch marks depends on whether your marble floor is polished or honed.

You'll find complete step-by-step instructions in our Removing Etch Marks Manual.

Although if you are not familiar with the proper way to protect, clean and maintain marble you may want to get our comprehensive Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide.

This one includes "removing etch marks," but also contains everything else you will need to know to protect and clean your marble the right way along with instructions and solutions for any problem you may encounter.

I recommend it for new marble owners because there is a bunch of completely wrong info that floats around the internet and unfortunately (and unbelievably) many installers don't tell you a thing about how to maintain your marble.

Good Luck,
Ryan

P.S. Get all the facts, answers, explanations and simple solutions with step-by-step instructions for any problem or question with our Granite & Marble Maintenance Manuals.

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.

Answering Your Question
by: Ryan

Debra,

I can appreciate you are looking for an answer. This forum exists to help people get the correct solution to their problem. I've helped thousands of people solve their granite and marble maintenance problems, but have never had anyone complain about helping them.

I get 10-20 questions a day just like yours. The tone of your comment suggest that you think I am somehow obligated to take as much of my time as needed to educate you about marble maintenance... that I somehow cheated you.

I wish I could, but I simply do not have unlimited free time to provide complete answers to what are often complex maintenance issues for everyone who asks.

Because there is such an overwhelming need for proper solutions and because I can't sit in front of my computer for hours a day answering the same questions over and over for people, I wrote the various ebooks specifically to continue to provide a much needed service and be able to help as many people like you as possible.

The answer you are seeking is provided in the ebook. Maybe I didn't make that clear to you. Sorry if there was some confusion on that.

The ebooks I recommended provide the most complete and helpful answer you will get anywhere, plus it includes plenty of extra information to help you take better care of your marble. I think it is entirely reasonable and fair to charge a small fee for that.

I know it seems like there is so much information on the internet that you should be able to find the answer to whatever question you have for free.

And I still provide plenty of answers and help for free.

But you don't want just any answer. Much of what you read (believe it or not) about marble on the internet is WRONG. Even from many who should know.

It's taken many years to acquire the knowledge, skill and expertise to correctly answer your question.

I'm sorry if you think it wrong of me to charge a very small fee for my time and knowledge and for making the effort to provide you with the very answer that would solve your problem. Books and ebooks are a common, effective and efficient way to present expert information to an unlimited number of people. I can't do that answering each question individually.

And I highly doubt you ask your lawyer or doctor, accountant or handyman to solve a problem for you for free. Or that you are willing to provide significant amounts of your knowledge, skill and time for free.

Frankly, in today's world $10.95 is very reasonable price to pay to solve your problem, while also saving your time searching around the internet and trying out all the bogus solutions you'll find.

I certainly don't have any issue if you don't want to buy the ebook or pay for a solution to your problem, but I legitimately tried to help you and in fact, provided you with the solution, so to suggest that I somehow cheated you is completely unfair and unwarranted.

I hope you find a way to solve your problem and wish you well.

Sincerely,
Ryan
