Marble Floor Stained By Vomit

QUESTION:I believe one of my daughters friends threw up on my marbled bathroom floor. I do not think that this marble was sealed and now there is a huge dull stain on the marble the size of a small towel. Is there anyway that I can remove this stain and then seal the marble ??ANSWER:Sealing has nothing to do with the dull "stain" on the floor.Actually it is not a stain. Stains occur when a substance absorbs into the marble (which sealing helps prevent). What you have is an "etch mark" caused by the stomach acids in the vomit (which sealers cannot prevent.) Marble will react with acids. Etching is a chemical burn of the marble. You didn't say if the floor is polished (shiny) or honed. Most marble floors especially in a bathroom are honed. You can remedy the situation, but the solution is different depending on whether the marble floor is honed or polished. Etch marks on polished marble can be easily removed by using SCP: Marble Polishing Paste, which is designed specifically for this purpose. If honed, then there isn't a product that can be used, but you can still do it yourself fairly easily and cheaply following the step-by-step instructions in the Removing Etch Marks ebook. Now, if the marble is polished and the vomit was on the floor a long time it could have etched the marble severely making it rough to the touch. If this is the case, then you may have to call a pro to fix it since the paste can handle mild to moderate etching. However, the vast majority of etching is not severe and the paste does the trick, plus it's much cheaper than a pro! Good Luck, Ryan P.S.
