Marble Floor Plastic Coating

by Lacy Pester
(Anaheim, CA)

QUESTION:

My marble floor in my entry way looks as if it has a plastic coating with little bubbles all over it. What is it and how can I fix it?

ANSWER:

Most likely it is a wax or some type of topical acrylic coating, which you don't want even if it didn't look so crummy. Topical coatings are a marble maintenance nightmare.

To strip it off use SCP: DEEP CLEAN Stripper/Degreaser.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!

One more thing

Well, that is very odd. Sometimes bubbles can occur on a slab that has been resined, but tiles are not resined.

Without seeing it, I really can't say. You may call in a pro to take a look.

I would give stripping it a shot, because as you note there may be something on the surface you are unaware of.

One more question...
by: Lacy Pester

We installed this marble tile ourself and it's not that old. Did we do somthing wrong? I don't mop it at all (of course possibly I've had guests staying with me for a long time who might have mopped it) Should I still use stripper on it?
