Marble Fireplace Flower Pot Stain
(Florida)
QUESTION:
I have a white flowerpot stain on my marble fireplace hearth area. The marble is brown. Is there any way to remove this stain?
ANSWER:
Do you mean the stain itself is white?
Well, you could have a stain from minerals left behind from water overflow, but usually a light-colored stain is a sign of etching.
Etching is a reaction to an acidic substance that corrodes the marble.
Staining occurs when a substance is absorbed into the marble.
These two are not the same and require completely different remedies.
It's also possible that you have both... staining and etching. If so, you'll have to remove the stain first then repair and remove the etch mark.
You can do this yourself with some simple low-cost procedures, but it will take some detective work to make sure you use the right chemical to remove the stain and of course to know how to repair an etch mark.
You'll find a complete explanation of each of these problems (when both are present too) with step-by-step instructions of in our
