Marble Fireplace Cleaning

QUESTION:
The marble around my gas log fireplace has darkened apparently from the fire/heat. I have used Ivory soap and water and gotten some brownish stuff off, but I doubt seriously that it all came off. Should I simply go to a marble place (like the kind of place that makes gravestones???) and get a cleaner?
ANSWER:
Is the marble polished (shiny) or honed (matte finish)?
If it is honed, then I'd use a mild bleach solution (1/2 ounce bleach in 16 oz. spray bottle) and a soft-bristle brush.
If it is polished, then use
MB-9 Stain Remover.
For either one, just spray on, wipe around an let soak. Then go back, spray a bit more and scrub.
Regular CleaningOnce you have the marble fireplace all cleaned up, don't let the it get dirty again obviously and use
MB-5 Cleaner once a week or as needed.
If you like, you can start by trying the
Mb-5 to clean the marble, but it is not formulated for heavy duty jobs like
MB-9.
Do NOT use the bleach for regular cleaning. Even with a honed surface regular use of bleach will etch the stone causing spots and discoloration.
Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend
MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found
MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
