Marble Fireplace Chemical Stain

by Neena
(Redwood City, CA)

QUESTION:

I got my hardwood refinished and sealed. The hardwood sealant got on the bottom part of the marble fireplace. I tried to clean it but with no result. Please help!

ANSWER:

Use acetone from the hardware store. Pour some acetone on the stained area and let it soak for 10 minutes then use an old rag to wipe off. You may need to use a soft-bristle brush as well.

If that doesn't remove it, then try methylene chloride.

Be careful with both of these solvents because they will damage the hardwood finish. You may have to just soak the rag in the solvent and then work the stain so you can keep the solvent off the wood.

Let me know how it works out via the comment link at the bottom of this page!

Good Luck,
Ryan
