Marble Countertop Lysol Cleaner Damage
QUESTION:
My son used lysol bathroom cleaner on a black marble counter. Now it has a white like film on it. Almost looks like bleach marks. What can I do to make it look right again?
ANSWER:
Lysol like most common and brand-name cleaners is damaging to marble countertops and floors.
Nearly all such products will eat into the marble countertop and corrode or "etch" the marble leaving dull and lighter discolored marks and spots.
The longer the offending substance is on the marble the more severe the damage will be. And mild etch marks often will only be dull without discoloration. This commonly occurs when "glass-rings" form from an acidic drink or when a cleaning product bottle is set on a marble countertop.
Because of this you should use only
products safe for cleaning marble.
Fortunately, most etch marks can be repaired using the
Marble Polish / Etch Remover that is made just for this problem and will restore the color and shine.
However, if the etching is severe (rough to the touch) you may have to hire a marble maintenance professional to grind down and re-finish your marble countertop.
It's rare for etching to be this severe and the Etch Remover product does the trick in almost every case (often even when severe and rough), but just letting you know that with real bad etching a pro is your only option.
Good Luck,
Ryan
