Marble Countertop Burn

by Pam
(Georgia)

QUESTION:

I have a curling iron burn on my marble countertop. How can I remove it?

ANSWER:

First, are you sure you have marble and not "cultured" marble?

Very easy to burn cultured marble, which is completely different from real marble, which is not easy to burn.

Cultured marble is made to "look" like marble, but if you look inside the cabinets and under the edges, you'll see that it's just a coating over the surface.

With cultured marble I imagine a small spot could be repaired by sanding and then re-application of the protective gel coat, but I'm not experienced repairing cultured marble.

If indeed you have real marble, then you may be able to repair it a little.... but ultimately you may need professional restoration.

If you are willing to live with less than optimal results (possible dull spot) then check out our Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Again, you won't get it perfect, but it should look better and far cheaper than hiring a pro.

Good Luck,
Ryan
