Marble Cleaning Products For
Water Spots

by Lora
(Melbourne, Vic)

QUESTION:

How to remove water marks, lemon or any cooking marks. We use kitchen a lot have lots of glass rings or just spots. Marble is cool Calcutta which is honed. How often can I use these products?

ANSWER:

The "water-spots" and "glass-rings" you have is due to a chemical reaction called "etching" that occurs when acidic or alkaline foods or products contact marble, travertine, limestone or any calcite-based stone.

Typically etch marks are not very visible or as visible on a honed surface vs. polished or on a white or light colored marble. Obviously, you can see them though!

The process for removing/repairing etching is different depending on if you have polished or honed marble.

For polished marble MB-11 Polishing Powder works very well for removing etch marks and light scratches. But.....

You have honed marble, which requires a different process to remove the damaged marble and restore the finish. You can't use MB-11 or any other product for honed marble.

The procedure is easy enough that you can do it yourself, but it isn't necessarily a quick procedure, so you'll need some patience to get the best results.

You'll find complete step-by-step instructions along with everything else you should know and do to take of your marble properly in our new Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide.

However, you said you have "lots" of etch marks. In this case it may be best to have a marble restoration professional take a look and/or restore your countertops.

It will be much more expensive of course than the techniques explained in our marble maintenance manual, but professional restoration may provide optimum results with extensive multiple etch marks.

Of course, once repaired you'll want to avoid further etching by always using coasters, cutting boards and trivets.

Good Luck,
Ryan

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
