Marble Cleaning Products for Shower

by Enna
(Los Angeles)

QUESTION:

I have Italian marble tiles in my shower and it has water stains. It looks pretty dull and lost it's original shine. What product can I use to make it clean and shiny again? So far, I have been using Windex glass cleaner only and it doesn't work. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

ANSWER:

Well, Windex is likely damaging/etching the marble making it dull and causing the "water-stains." But are you sure it was shiny in the first place?

Often marble in a shower is honed or tumbled so the surface is more dull and rough without a shine. If this is the case then, only a professional will be able to make it shine by polishing the surface with diamond abrasives.

However, if the marble is indeed polished/shiny (common enough on walls) then you'll need to use SCP- Marble Polishing Paste to get the shine back.

This paste is specially made to remove etch marks (the dull "water-stains" you write about) and is easy to use. But if the whole shower is etched, it will take some work to restore the shine to all tiles.

You also may have a build-up of soap scum, which will leave a dull haze on the surface. To clean soap scum use PRISTINE Soap Film Remover.

And in the future use ONLY products made specifically for cleaning marble. Most common household cleaners you buy in the store will damage marble.

Oh, if the marble is honed/tumbled (was never shiny) with etch marks, then you'll need to follow the steps in You'll find complete step-by-step instructions in the Removing Etch Marks Manual.

The paste is only for polished/shiny marble.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
