Marble Cleaning for New Shower & Bath Floor
QUESTION:
I have a brand new tumbled marble shower and bath floor. How do I remove and stay on top of soap scum and what do I use to prevent etching the stone and the grout....
ANSWER:
Since you are new to cleaning marble I'd highly recommend you get the
Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide.
It will answer all your questions, teach you everything you should do and not do, how to do it right, the most effective solutions, how to protect, clean and maintain marble properly, products, etc.
Specifically for soap scum I'd use
PRISTINE Soap Film Remover.
To prevent etching avoid contact with acidic food, drinks and/or bath products (mouth wash, perfume, some toothpaste, etc.)
Use decorative trays to set thing on instead of right on the countertop surface.
And use only
products safe for cleaning marble. Most common brand name cleaners will etch and damage marble.
There's nothing you can put on your marble to stop etching. You simply must avoid contact. Well, you could apply a permanent topical acrylic coating, but this type of coating is not recommended for stone and can create more problems than it solves. So, I wouldn't do that...
Especially when it's particularly easy to remove etch marks on polished marble using
SCP: Marble Polishing Paste.
Removing etch marks in honed marble takes a bit more work, but can still be done fairly easily. All of the above is thoroughly explained in the Cleaning Marble Secrets guide.
Good Luck,
Ryan
