Kaboom Cleaner Stains on Marble Vanity

by Cecile
(Chandler, AZ, USA)

QUESTION:

Brown and white marble vanity. Sprayed with Kaboom shower, tub and tile cleaner. Now has stains like rough water marks. How to repolish? Can we with product or do we need to hire a professional?

ANSWER:

Yeah, you can't use most common and/or brand-name cleaners on marble because they are too harsh and will damage marble.

It's called etching. Good news is that it can be repaired using SCP: Marble Polishing Paste made exactly for this purpose.

Common or typical household cleaners like Kaboom are too alkaline and react with marble to corrode and eat into the surface destroying the polished layer, exposing more raw marble leaving dull, light colored spots.

When severe, etching must be repaired by a marble maintenance professional. But most etch marks from cleaners used once are not severe and can be repaired/removed using the paste.

We always recommend using the paste first, because it usually does the trick and is far cheaper than a pro, but if the damage is over a large area and/or the paste doesn't completely restore the polish, then you know it's time to call a pro.

Of course, from now on use only products safe for cleaning marble.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
