I didn't know... Used Wrong Marble Cleaner
by Wife
(Johnston, RI, USA)
QUESTION:
I just moved into a gorgeous condo and cleaned the marble bath counters with an all purpose cleaner (409). Now they have these little circle marks all over and my husband is furious! How can I fix my BIG mistake and make them shine again and make the spots go away? Please help!
ANSWER:
Yes, you ruined your marble by using a product that isn't safe for marble.
You have "etched" the marble. That's what happens when acidic foods or harsh cleaners contact marble. It's a form of corrosion that eats away at the marble causing dull and discolored spots.
They can be fixed, but how much it will cost will depend on how severe and extensive the damage is.
If you just have a few spots here and there, then using
MB-11 Marble Polishing Powder will restore the shine.
However, if your whole countertop is dull and spotty, then you may need to hire a marble restoration professional to re-surface the marble. Obviously, that is expensive.
So, use the
MB-11 and you may get lucky. If you can't get all the shine back completely, then call a pro.
And if you want to learn everything you need to know to avoid such problems in the future and learn the
correct way to protect, clean and maintain marble (including complete instructions on how to fix your problem) then get the

And don't ever use typical store-bought household cleaners on it again, of course.
Good Luck,
