Hairspray on Marble Vanity Top

QUESTION:
I am planning to install a Carrara Marble vanity top in my bathroom. If I spray hairspray and it hits the countertop will it ruin it?
ANSWER:
It could if the hairspray contains acidic chemicals. Marble reacts with acids causing dull and/or light spots called "etch marks."
Most etching can be repaired easily with
SCP- Marble Polishing Paste, but you should use a spray that isn't acidic.
And you should use a tray on the countetop for other bath products that are or can be acidic like perfume, mouthwash, etc.
It can happen and I'd take a few precautions, but I wouldn't worry too much about it
I have polished Carrara in a guest/pool bathroom that gets heavy use and still looks new. I've used the above paste a couple times when it did get etched and it completely removed the mark in 30 seconds.
Also, be sure to use only cleaning products specifically formulated for marble. This is important.
