Grout On Marble

by Nora
(Long Beach, CA)

QUESTION:

When my dad put marble in my shower he got some grout on the marble stone tiles how can i remove the grout from the marble?

ANSWER:

Most likely you'll have to use a "grout remover" to get it off. Unfortunately, if your marble is polished, the grout remover will probably etch (corrode and dull) the polish.

If the marble is honed or tumbled then it's not as big an issue since etching is not as noticeable on these surface finishes. In this case, just dilute the grout remover with water (10-20 parts water to 1 part remover) and test it on some left over tiles to see what the reaction is.

You can test on polished tiles too. Maybe you'll get lucky and if you dilute the grout remover enough it will remove the grout without dulling the marble. Otherwise, you'll need a pro to re-polish the marble.

I'd consider calling in a marble restoration professional at first anyway. These types of problems can be tricky and this way you can hold someone else (besides poor old Dad) accountable and responsible for making it right.

Good Luck,
Ryan

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
