Granite Sealer Remover

QUESTION:

I have exterior 2-1/4" mason granite mortared to a 6" pad. It was sealed with a silane/siloxane sealer and now moisture is being trapped leaving spots and some entire stones looking "wet". Any ideas why and how to remove this penetrating sealer?

ANSWER:

I suggest using methylene chloride to remove the sealer. Good thing it's outside because this stuff is noxious and toxic.

The next problem you need to solve is why water is getting underneath the granite. If you don't fix that, eventually you'll get a breakdown of the whole installation.

Good Luck,
Ryan

How to fix dark discoloration on my granite
by: Anonymous

Dear Sirs, I had a light granite installed. and by the sink counter the granite is getting darker than the rest why.

ANSWER: Your granite should probably needs to be sealed. Water will absorb into the granite, but it won't stain. If you let it dry, you'll see that the granite is no longer dark.

If the stain is still there once dry, then it isn't water that is staining it.
