Granite Countertop Seams More Visible

QUESTION:
Hi. We built a home about 5 years ago and used Uba Tuba granite for kitchen countertops. We have several different slabs and I believe all were sealed after installation. We have noticed that over the past several months or year that the seams between the slabs appear to be becoming more visible.
I don't know if it is a case of the sealant breaking down along the seams or what it might be. I've tried using granite cleaner with a tooth brush to make sure that it wasn't just dust etc. building up, but that didn't help....have you heard of this problem before? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!
ANSWER:
Well, it has nothing to do with the granite sealer. You've cleaned them thoroughly so we know it isn't because of a slight groove collecting dirt.
Do you notice any gaps in the glue in the seams?
Can you feel the seam running a finger over it?
Does it seem level or is one side higher?
Most commonly, foundation movement even if slight can cause some separation of the seams which will make them more visible.
If this is the case, then have your fabricator/installer come back and shim up to make even and re-glue the seams.
If you truly think there is a problem beyond the fact that after 5 years you notice the seams more and so they "appear" to be more visible, then I'd call a pro, your fabricator to come take a look.
Good Luck,
Ryan
