QUESTION:
Do you know anyone that has installed a flat top grill in their outdoor kitchen? for example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/evogrills
ANSWER:
Alan, I don't have any experience with this grill, but I have some thoughts for you to consider.
I think it could be useful for cooking some foods, but will not be as versatile as a standard flame grill.
For one, I'd be concerned that the flat top may not get hot enough to cook a steak properly.
Also, it has only one level/surface so cooking multiple items at different temperatures would be more difficult. (i.e. roasting corn and cooking fish and steak, etc.)
Having a cover/lid on a BBQ also allows you to cook more efficiently and effectively as cooking occurs all around the food as opposed to only on the area touching the flat top surface.
If you grill a lot of cut vegetables (or pancakes!) then you may consider adding the flat top to your outdoor kitchen set-up, but I wouldn't use it as your only grill.
The typical flame grill is a much better option in my opinion.

Ryan
