Dull Streaky Vinegar Damage

by Mari Ann
(Zionsville, Indiana)

QUESTION:

My cleaning lady accidentally cleaned my marble tiled bathroom with vinegar and water. What can I do to repair this?

ANSWER:

Vinegar is a great, low-cost cleaner, but it is also acidic which is bad for marble. Marble is sensitive to acidic food, drinks, cleaners and to other harsh cleaning chemicals like most common and brand-name household cleaners.

This is why you should only use products safe for cleaning marble & granite.

So, the vinegar corroded or "etched" the marble eating away the polished surface layer.

Luckily, you can fix this problem and restore the shine with SCP- Marble Polishing Paste.

You can't make honed marble shiny with this paste, but you can make polished marble that is dull from etching shiny again. The paste is specifically made for this purpose.

If the marble has been severely etched (very rough to the touch) or if the damaged area is very large you may need professional restoration. But most cases by far are easily restored with the paste.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
