Dull & Discoloured Bathroom Marble
by Pauline Wurzel

QUESTION:
The marble in my bathroom is 13 years old and has obviously been neglected in some areas. There is both black veined marble and pink and white veined marble, mostly the latter.
The floor of the shower (pink and white marble) shows roughness near the plug hole and the black is discoloured near the glass shower door. There is also a round jar mark on a black area near the bath tub. Overall the tile appears quite dull.
Can you help by advising what I should do myself - and short of bringing in professionals?
ANSWER:
I'd suggest cleaning it all with
MB-3 Cleaner to remove soap scum and water deposits.
Sounds like you have some etching, which you can usually restore with
MB-11 Polishing Powder.
The "dullness" could be because all of it was cleaned with damaging products or it could just be honed/tumbled and not supposed to be shiny.
However, honed marble still looks great, so if your marble just looks shoddy overall and/or has been etched all over, then you can clean as best you can and remove the jar marks, but to really make it look good will require a professional.
Good Luck,
Ryan
