Do-it-Yourself Sealing Marble Table

QUESTION:

We have a marble coffee table that has been stripped of its sealant. How can we reseal it? We would like to do the job ourselves.

ANSWER:

First, I'd ask... how do you know it needs sealing? It may, but marble is not that absorbent (contrary to the bogus info you often read that it stains easy) and often does not need sealing especially on a polished (shiny) surface.

So, you should water test your marble table first.

If testing shows you should seal it, then I'd recommend using SenGuard or Stone Sentry Sealers.

SenGuard is the best out there and will require only one application. It also comes in a do-it-yourself sealer kit with DVD and everything.

Understand that sealing has nothing to do with "glass-rings" or "water spots." These are forms of etching which is corrosion from acidic foods, drinks and harsh cleaning products that shouldn't be used for marble maintenance.

Sealing will not stop this. You must eliminate contact with coasters, place mats, etc. and by using only products safe for cleaning marble.

Good Luck,
Ryan
