Disastrous Marble Floor Installation

by Beverly
(Pennsylvania)

QUESTION:

Marble floors were installed and never covered. Construction workers walked all over them. Sweeping compound was used to sweep up the debris by maintenance. Flooring guys grouted and when they wiped the grout they did not dry the tile leaving brown streaks all through it. Then they came along and sealed over top of the streaked dirty tiles. Help!!! I am the cleaning lady what can I do... these floors look awful. I have been on my hands and knees with plain water and mild soap but still can't get the tiles to come clean because it is underneath the sealer. Thank you, Beverly

ANSWER:

Beverly, this is not your battle. Why haven't the owners complained to the construction company?

They should have installed the marble last to avoid exactly what has happened. You will not be able to "clean" this.

Most likely the marble floor will need to be replaced or at least re-surfaced. And that is on the construction company.

I'd tell the owner that he/she needs to raise heck and get the construction company to fix/replace this mess at no extra charge of course.

They didn't clean the grout properly, didn't seal properly (should have waited 3 weeks after all construction done) and didn't protect what they had an obligation to protect.

If you clean many houses with marble, you may want to get our Cleaning Marble Secrets Guide. It covers everything about marble maintenance with lots of simple DIY solutions and product recommendations.

It will make you a hero at some point. This job is a problem with installation, not maintenance.

Good Luck,
Ryan
