Cup Mark on Marble Fireplace

QUESTION:

how do you get cup stain off a marble fireplace?

ANSWER:

There are two types of "marks" that can occur on marble. Marble cleaning for each is different.

1. Stain: which occurs when a substance absorbs into the marble. Stains will always be darker than the marble color.

Regular cleaning methods will not remove a stain since it is below the surface. Luckily, most stains can be easily removed, but the marble maintenance procedure depends on what did the staining.

For removal and cleaning marble stains, follow the instructions in the Removing Granite & Marble Stains e-book.

2. Etching: is a chemical reaction that occurs upon contact with acidic foods, drinks and harsh cleaners leaving a dull and lighter-colored spot or ring often called a "water-spot"... although pure water does not stain or damage marble.

Etch marks are not stains. Nothing has aborbed. The surface itself has been damaged.

Etch marks can also be repaired, but it depends on the type of surface finish (polished or non-polished).

You'll find complete instructions for restoring and cleaning marble etch marks on all surface types in the Removing Etch Marks e-book.

Or you can get all the above information on cleaning marble stains and restoring marble etch marks along with a ton more marble maintenance info in the Cleaning Marble Secrets ebook.

You can have etching and staining in the same spot. If say an acidic drink like coffee or soda is spilled, it can both etch the surface and then absorb causing a stain.

Cleaning marble stains must be done prior to repairing etch marks.

Good Luck,
Ryan
