Cultured Marble Sink Drain Stain

by Rick
(Tucson, AZ, USA)

QUESTION

I have a dual sink vanity and counter top all made out of white cultured marble. It appears they used plumber's putty around the drains. I now have stains around the collar of each drain. Is there any way to effectively remove the stains?

Thank you for any advice you may offer.
Respectfully, Rick

ANSWER:

Cultured marble really is a completely different product than marble or natural stone and not my area of knowledge regarding the possible methods of repair or cleaning.

Usually if cultured marble is stained, it is permanent. It could potentially be sanded down a bit and re-coated with the protective gel coat, but I recommend consulting an experienced cultured marble pro.

Contact the manufacturer of the countertops and see what they can offer.

Also, if the plumber did a sloppy job, then I'd hold him responsible for replacement. He won't like it and probably will avoid it, but you could try. If the cost of the tops is worth it there's always small claims court.

Sorry couldn't offer a more satisfying answer.

Good Luck,
Ryan
