Cloudy Marble Shower Walls

by Tommy A.
(Birmingham, AL)

QUESTION:

I have black and brown marble looks like clouds mingled. Water stains on the tile I can't get them off like the water stain has run down the tile and stain it

I bought some stone care pro pristine soap film remover it did not work and some stone care pro stone plus it did not work. I don't know want to do and need help.

ANSWER:

Tommy, the white mingled clouds are most likely etch marks caused by too harsh alkaline cleaning products (I'm guessing it wasn't an acidic food product, although it can be caused by shaving cream and some other bath products that can be acidic).

Etching is corrosion of the marble. In other words, a little bit of the surface of the marble has been destroyed via a chemical reaction between the marble and whatever caustic substance contacted the marble.

This reaction causes the cloudy and often dull spots you describe.

Etching can be repaired and the white spots removed, but not by Stone Care Pro: Pristine or Stone Plus.

Stone Care Pro: Pristine is used to clean soap scum and hard water build-up... not etching.

Stone Plus is a general maintenance cleaner for marble and all stone, but not etching.

So, you are right... these product will not work for the problem you describe.

They are made specifically safe for cleaning marble, won't damage your marble and are very effective on soap scum, hard water and general marble maintenance... just not etch marks... that's a unique issue.

To fix etch marks you need to use SCP: Marble Polishing Paste, which is formulated to restore the shine and color on polished marble that has been etched.

Repairing etch marks on honed (non-reflective matte finish) requires a different technique.

The polishing paste is very easy to use (just rub on affected area) and doesn't require much paste to get excellent results.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
