Cleaning & Polishing Marble Headstone
QUESTION:
how to clean and polish my headstone?
ANSWER:
If very dirty, then I'd suggest using this
Intensive Cleaner for cleaning marble surface dirt and grime. Powerful stuff, but still safe to use on marble.
If after marble cleaning you see stains, then you'll have to follow the instructions in the
Removing Granite & Marble Stains e-book.
There isn't a product that can remove marble stains via conventional cleaning, since stains occur below the surface. But the procedure is easy and cheap. It just depends on what is actually staining the marble, but all that is explained in the e-book.
For marble polishing you can use the
Marble Polish / Etch Remover IF the marble was orginally polished and it is still smooth.
However, if the marble was never polished (shiny) to begin with, then it will require a marble cleaning and maintenance professional to grind and re-surface the headstone so it does have a shiny finish.
You can't "polish" or make a marble shine by applying a chemical or a polishing product. You can
enhance or
restore a shine with a polishing product (like that recommended above) but a product can't make raw, rough or heavily weathered marble shine.
The shiny smooth polished finish must first be created on the stone by using special abrasives and tools or on a big machine at the factory.
Similar to sanding wood. You can't make a piece of firewood smooth simply by staining it. You have to sand it down to make it smooth.
Good Luck,
Ryan
