Cleaning Mold & Mildew On Tumbled Marble Shower

by Carol L.
(Glen Cove, NY)

QUESTION:

I have ivory-colored tumbled marble in the shower... how do I get rid it of mildew?

I have tried the stone tech and others.
Hard to get the mold out. I seal it 2-3 times a year, but is really difficult.

Also, I have shiny ivory marble top... how do I get rid of toilety products?
tk you

ANSWER:

For mold & mildew use BLAST Mildew Remover. Spay and let soak for 5-10 minutes for best results.

Also, check for cracks and voids in the grout. If water gets behind the tiles, it can create a constant mildew problem.

If you have cracks, you need to let the shower dry out completely for days without use and repair the cracks.

Also, you need to make sure you have good ventilation so the shower dries out every day after use and be sure to clean at least once a week.

For marble countertops...

I'm not sure what you mean by "toilety products," but I'll guess that you have some dull and/or lighter colored spots, rings, etc. on your polished marble.

These are "etch marks" from contact with acidic foods, drinks and some bath products. You should use a tray to set shave cream, mouthwash, perfume, etc. on instead of on the marble itself.

To remove etch marks and get the shine/color back use a good compound like SCP- Marble Polishing Paste.

Sealing

Also, you really don't need to apply a sealer to marble in a shower. Sealers protect against stains and it's very rare to get a true stain in a shower.

You don't eat or drink in there, most bath products will not stain (maybe a leaky bottle of an oily product) and water is constantly washing everything away.

Sealing will not help with mildew or soap scum or etching. So, if you've sealed it two or three times or more already, you don't ever need to seal it again unless you have it re-surfaced.

Ryan
