QUESTION:
A soap dispenser left a rust ring on our marble vanity...how can I remove without damaging the countertop surface?
ANSWER:
Rust stains in granite or marble countertops can be the most difficult type of stains to remove.
However, the great thing about natural stone is that it can almost always be repaired or restored.
A stain occurs in marble when a substance absorbs into the pores
below the surface. In this case rusty water.
Since the stain is below the surface, conventional cleaning methods (spray and scrub, etc.) won't work.
So, it's a bit of a DIY project to remove marble stains and the procedure necessary depends on what actually stained the marble, however it's easy and cheap to do.
