Cleaning Marble Vanity Dull Cloudy Spots
QUESTION:
I purchased a used bathroom vanity with a black marble top. I was told the marble needed polishing. I didn't do any research on marble and know nothing about it. I assumed the spots will come out.
Now I need to know what to do. It is a very beautiful vanity and will look fantastic in a 1927 house I am restoring. I hope I can restore the marble and get rid of these cloudy spots on the top.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ANSWER:
The dull and cloudy spots are "etch marks" caused by an acidic substance that has corroded the marble surface.
You can remove the spots and restore the color and shine with
SCP- Marble Polishing Paste, which is made just for this purpose.
Etching is a common marble maintenance issue. That's why you should use coasters or decorative trays to set potentially damaging products like perfume, shave cream, mouth wash on.
Etching occurs because marble is sensitive to acids. Contact with acids causes a chemical reaction that eats at the marble.
Common household cleaners will also damage marble, so you need to use ONLY
products safe for cleaning marble.
Sealing will not prevent this, which is a common misconception.
