Cleaning Marble Table Dull Stains

by Dianne
(Fort Collins, CO)

marble table

QUESTION:

It looks like possible water stains or solvent of some kind...you can't feel it on the table but in the light it looks like something was set there for a while and created a very bad dull stain..the surface is smooth. How can I get this out?

ANSWER:

Dianne, the spots on the table are not true "stains." Nothing has absorbed into the marble (it's actually onyx, which requires essentially the same care as marble).

The onyx came in contact with an acidic substance which corroded the shiny top layer revealing the more dull stone underneath.

It's called "etching." Very severe cases require a stone restoration professional, but yours is not severe if still smooth.

Most etch marks can be easily removed using a good compound like SCP- Marble Polishing Paste, which I like best.

It's easy to use and will restore the shine and color quickly.

Be sure to use only marble-safe (will be safe for onyx too) products for cleaning.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
