Cleaning Marble Shower Walls & Mildew
QUESTION:
The marble amalgamate in my shower is dull and also has whitish streaks all over it from "scrubbing" or cleaning it. The grout gets the black mildew in the floor. What products can I use for each of these problems? Rita
ANSWER:
The dullness and whitish streaks are almost certainly soap scum. Builds up easy and can be difficult to remove with normal stone cleaner.
Use
PRISTINE Soap Film Remover to clean. Be sure to spray and let soak for 5-10 minutes for best results. Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub.
For the mold and mildew use
BLAST Mildew Remover.
Both products are excellent and safe for use on marble and all stone.
One note on the mildew... if you get recurring mold and mildew even with regular (weekly) cleaning, then you may have a problem with water getting underneath the tiles through cracks or voids in the grout.
If this is happening, you need to let the shower completely dry out (no use for 4-5 days) and repair any cracks, etc.
Cleaning MarbleIf you have been using generic store-bought household cleaning products, then light spots or streaks could be damage from those products called etching... a form of corrosion.
You should clean using ONLY products made specifically for marble.
I'd use the PRISTINE and the BLAST first. If you still have light-colored marks, spots, streaks after that, then you've etched the marble.
To repair etch marks use a good compound like
SCP- Marble Polishing Paste.
However, if the etching is severe and rough, you may need to hire a marble professional to fix.
Good Luck,
Ryan
