Cleaning Marble Shower Hard Water

by David H. Bindelglass
(Franklin Lakes, NJ)

QUESTION:

How should I clean hard water film on my shower walls? Our marble is a beautiful pink.

ANSWER:

To remove hard water and soap scum you can use a diluted solution of 1/2 cup ammonia in one gallon of water.

HOWEVER, repeated use of this solution could cause some etching/dulling of the marble surface. If your marble is honed (not a shiny polish) then you don't have to be so concerned.

You can also buy soap scum/hard water removers formulated for stone. The Soap Scum / Hard Water Remover
is a good one.

The best way to cut down on the hard water film and over-use of chemicals is to use a squeegee to wipe the water off the walls, etc. after each use.

Good Luck,
Ryan
